Water Based Lubes Only!
Help, my sex toys are melting!
No it is not a joke. Using the wrong lube on your sex toy can cause a chemical reaction and result in a melt down. Much in the same way that sex toys of different (or similar) materials can melt together (when storing sex toys together, wrap each one up in soft cloth or fabric bag to keep them seperated – some sex toys come with their own bags).
Here is the problem: Many sex toys are sold as silicone, elastomer or other high quality material, but they may not be in their pure form, many are mixtures of latex and silicone or similar compounds. These companies do not have to tell you otherwise, and frequently will label their products as silicone, even though they may contain other materials. A good reason to pay a little extra for products from companies who care and produce very good products.
This is why most sex toys are sold as novelties in North America and not as sexual devices. Toys made from the likes of UR3 or Cyberskin are a good example of mixed compounds, which is said to be Latex and Silicone mixed together (exact compounds are protected fiercely by sex toy manufacturers and almost impossible to obtain) .
So I ONLY recommend using water based lubricants for all sex toys. A few exceptions are pyrex glass sex toys – if purchased from a reputable company like Phallix (they do not paint their glass dildos) and high quality metal sex toys (without rubber or soft plastic parts) – both of these should be safe for use with most lubricants currently available.
